STYLE GURU STYLE: Dual Action Swimsuit

It’s a funny thing seeing fashion trends from other decades and generations come back into play years later. From the bohemian vibes of the ‘70s, the neons of the ‘80s and the infamous black chokers of the ‘90s, we have been witness to the circulation of fashion. I, for one, own a pair of Dittos jeans from Urban Outfitters that my mother squealed about when I showed her, claiming she had multiple pairs of them when she was my age. Crazy.

A trend I have absolutely loved seeing weave its way back into fashion enthusiasts’ hearts is high-waisted anything. Typically, you can spot me wearing my high-waisted jeans or shorts at almost all times. What’s not to love? They make your booty look fantastic and your legs look miles long.

One-piece bathing suits have been around for ages and never went out of fashion, but their credibility has been upped much more recently. They have become the holy grail of beach-goers. Speaking from a San Diego perspective, it seems nearly impossible to not have a one-piece at hand in your closet nowadays.

Using the spring 2014 ready-to-wear runway collection by Michael Kors as inspiration, I wanted to incorporate two of my favorite things. As I was browsing this collection, I adored how all the bathing suits shown were of a high-waisted nature or paired with a different article of clothing that was. I took this aspect into consideration and decided to make it more versatile.

Pairing my one-piece with my high-waisted shorts is extremely easy to transition from day to night very quickly. This is an outfit I utilize more often than not when I go to the beach and need to quickly get ready for a get-together later that night.

Comfy, cute and casual is my philosophy and this outfit does it all. Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean one’s love for shorts and sandals has to.

Get My Look: 1. A killer one-piece bathing suit. 2. High-waisted bottoms. 3. Sandals or booties.
