STYLE GURU STYLE: Dress Your Best

From the dawn of time, I have hated wearing pants. I loathe being cooped up in jeans entirely too tight just for “fashion.” I do, however, enjoy looking my best and that is where dresses become the unsung hero.

When I saw Jenni Kayne’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I instantly fell in love. She creates a rock-chic, prep school style by utilizing casual, feminine pieces. The pieces in this collection showcase neutral colors and layering techniques that generate simple yet tasteful fashion statements.

My newfound love of dresses came to me partly because of my laziness in college. How easy is it to slip one article of clothing on and still look put together? The answer is so easy. The dress I’m wearing may not be the warmest for our “winter” here in Florida, but it has pockets and how could I turn that down? For the warmth I was looking for, I layered a hunter green long sleeve top underneath my dress. To make the look even more my own, I added a shiny belt to accentuate the waistline of the dress and a Rogue Cream Lipstick by the SEPHORA COLLECTION.

A favorite look of mine combines a dress with riding boots and that is just what Jenni Kayne did in her fall collection. Knee-high boots are so versatile and can dress up or dress down any outfit- from a pair of jeans and a sweater to a dress and eye-catching lipstick. Kayne’s collection combined multiple, solid colors, but I kept it simple for my version. The black boots and black dress bring attention to the color of the layered shirt and the belt as well.

Get My Look: 1. A long sleeve crewneck shirt. 2. A square- or round-neck dress. 3. Riding boots.
