STYLE GURU STYLE: Downtown Girl

Cream cast iron buildings. Stone-paved roads. Art galleries. High-end window displays. These are just a few of the beautiful elements of the city that you are surrounded with when shopping in SoHo. Along with the artistically-pleasing nature of the neighborhood, there are young, trendy Fashionistas on every street corner that you turn. These downtown girls are always perfectly chic and put together, a look portrayed by Vera Wang.

Ever since the Vera Wang spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was released, I have been lusting to achieve this minimalistic, “cool girl” look that is the essence of her collection. This collection features a lot of satin pants, satin black vests, mesh fabrics and crop tops. It embodies youth, but also sophistication.

Vera Wang’s collection is centered around the black satin vest, the same piece I used to bring my outfit to life and achieve a designer-inspired look. This vest can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I chose to dress mine down by pairing it with cotton jogger pants. The contrast of fabric choices instantly portrays a downtown-chic vibe.

In order to keep this outfit casual, but still sophisticated, I paired the pants and vest with a satin crop top. The crop top makes it fun, but the silk material still maintains the refined look. The cutouts on this top incorporate another element that is seen in many pieces in the Vera Wang collection.

Since an outfit is never complete without accessories, opt for one or two simple gold jewelry pieces. An arm cuff really pulls the sleeveless look together, breaking up the bare arm. If you do not have an arm cuff, do not be afraid to wear the bracelets you already own on other areas of your arm besides your wrist. Add a dainty necklace and the look is complete. With your satin vest and cutout tops, you can own the streets of SoHo as if you had just walked in one of Vera Wang’s runway shows.

Get My Look: 1. A sleeveless vest. 2. A pair of jogger pants. 3. A cutout crop top. 4. An arm cuff. 5. A pair of ankle boots.
