My outfit inspiration comes from the Balmain spring 2017 menswear collection. Once I spotted this collection, I immediately fell in love with designer Oliver Rousteing’s denim-on-denim section. Denim-on-denim is one of my favorite looks and I simply had to incorporate this into my own style. I especially loved the nude accents that the collection used, which gave the denim an extra pop.
This collection is one of my favorites because it provided more of a casual look in contrast to the dressy looks usually presented in Balmain shows. Don’t get me wrong, I love both sides of Balmain, but with this collection in particular, I found I could actually remake some of the looks from the show with items from my own closet. Denim-on-denim is so versatile—I find it can be worn for either dressy or casual occasions; this look can be styled in so many ways; it can be layered, dressed with heels or sneakers, and works with myriad accessories for complimenting.
Being such a fan of this Balmain collection, for my look I paired a high-low distressed denim crop top with a pair of lightwash denim ripped jeans. The length difference in the crop top added a little fun to the outfit and reminds me of the Balmain collection. In the collection, Oliver Rousteing utilizes length and layering to display a wide varietyof styles with only one material. Now my case, as it is summertime, layering wasn’t an option, but I achieved a similar feel with the high-low look of my top. As previously mentioned, I really loved the nude accents interspersed throughout the collection so I used a neutral to help accessorize my look. I am wearing a dark nude open-toe bootie and a medium tone satchel handbag. As for my jewellery, I wanted to keep it simple for this look so I wore a gold padlock chain necklace, a champagne Pandora rope bracelet and gold watch. To finish my look, well, I couldn’t possibly leave the house without my favorite round sunglasses from Call it Spring.
Being able to incorporate a designer look into my own closet is the best feeling—being able to emulated whenever I spot an outfit on the runway that inspires me. I hope that I inspire you to do the same!
