STYLE GURU STYLE: Denim On Denim

Denim is making a comeback. Though it may have already been a staple in millions of closets around the world, it has made its way back onto fashion runways making it the new trend for spring 2016. In 2015, we saw jeans comeback as skirts, the boot-cut was brought back and those stylish and daring culottes were also made in denim. Some looks even featured sequins!  This season, we’ll see feminine twists on the fabric, along with refurbished looks.

I remember when I was a kid, all I ever wanted to wear was jeans. I wore my jeans out so bad my mother would say I had knives for knees because of all the holes. That love for jeans has waned a bit since I’ve discovered how much more comfortable leggings or running tights are. My love is slowly returning as I find better pairs of jeans.

I always told myself that I would never wear denim on denim, but here I am! I recently found a love for denim button-downs and have been on a hunt for the dang thing. Every one I found was expensive until Black Friday of 2015 when I bought mine from Old Navy. What I didn’t know was that I would have some trouble trying to pair it with pieces in my closet. It was too casual to dress up in my opinion so I’ve been wearing it with leggings. Until I was changing for the millionth time the day I took this picture and said “who cares if I wear denim on denim? Not me.”

I loved the wash of one outfit in Gucci’s spring 2015 Ready to Wear show, so I tried to mimic the look in it’s most simple form. Next time, I think I’ll pair the outfit with heels instead of sneakers. Since I can’t wear exactly what is worn on the runway this season because my bank account would hate me, I’ll settle for this.

What I like about my outfit is that it is comfortable, it looks like I tried a little for class and did I mention it’s comfortable? I didn’t feel the need to button it closed because it was warm so I opted for a floral blouse to give my outfit some girliness. Those Converse I’m wearing? I’ve had them since ninth grade; my parents will cringe at this post.
