STYLE GURU STYLE: Dark Horse

Leather, black and block-heels galore! Barbara Bui’s pre-fall 2016 collection contains everything I need in my closet and more. The line embraces the perfect balance between playfulness and all-business. Her utilization of structured silhouettes paired flawlessly with the utility-esque zippers and buckles that adorned various coats, pants and dresses in this collection. Bui’s use of black and white, contrasted slightly with the primary hues of red and blue. Bui also made winter coats and blazers look more elegant than Taylor Swift at the Grammys. Although, it was a close call.

Taking a page from Bui’s book, I decided to dress up my favorite winter coat. The striped and plaid patterns in her collection made the clothes pop. Influenced from Bui’s line the Aztec, horse-print decorating my coat emulates that same vibe. Black and white never goes out of style, the color palate of my coat was ideal to steal Bui’s look.

Instead of leather, I opted for a more traditional, cropped, black trouser. This look is more class and internship appropriate, as well as budget friendly. As a Fashionista with carefully allocated funds, I’ve learned that I have to cut out some luxuries. This is why I love to re-create runway looks with my own personal spin.

I layered a classic, black T-shirt, which I knotted in the front to break up its length. In several looks, Bui showcased a strappy, black, block heel, which I also chose to wear. Block heels are my favorite shoe, because they are easy to walk in but also look extremely professional. Nothing’s worse than stumbling into an elevator housing the head of a company.

A monochromatic look screams sophistication, which is why I was drawn to the ensembles in Bui’s collection. Appropriate for work or a night on the town, a stream-lined outfit such as this will always leave you looking on top of your game. Here, Bui has demonstrated that winter coats don’t have to be heavy or drab.

Get My Look: 1. Coat. 2. T-shirt. 3. Trousers. 4. Heels.
