STYLE GURU STYLE: Crushing On Chokers

One of this season’s hottest trends is the choker. While it started to gain traction and popularity last season, I think that this fall the choker will be an “it” item. Chokers are a very accessible trend because they’re easy to try without spending a lot of money. Also, chokers aren’t limited to one style: they can be bohemian, edgy, minimalist or preppy depending on how they’re styled.

I was particularly inspired by Chloé’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection and the way chokers, handkerchiefs and skinny scarves were styled. I loved how there were multiple layers to a choker and a part of it was hung down which created a layered effect in the look. This collection further proves that the choker trend is not limited to one style, because the choker look can be achieved through a few different mediums: a handkerchief, a skinny scarf or an actual choker necklace.

Today, I went for a pretty simple look. I paired my choker with an olive green midi dress and black suede lace-up flats. What I love about the choker I’m wearing is that there are so many different ways to wear it. I can wrap it a few times around my neck and tie the ends in a bow, or I can wrap it once and then knot it lower. Since my dress was pretty simple on the front, I decided to loop my choker once around my neck and then let it hang in the front of my dress. One of my friends actually made the choker for me which makes it an even more special accessory in my wardrobe.

I love this dress because it can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Add a cool earring, more makeup and heels to dress it up for a night out or dress it down with sandals, a denim jacket and all natural makeup for a casual going to class look. Either way, this dress is super comfy which is a win in my book.
