STYLE GURU STYLE: Call Me Camo

In Valentino’s pre-fall 2015 collection, the runway was a blast from the past. ‘70s inspired collections took over the pre-fall 2015 runways from Dior to Versace, but Valentino classed up its collection by paring military inspired pieces with lace dresses and floral booties. The juxtaposition between a sleek military jacket and a classic piece such as a lace dress caught my eye instantly, and I knew I had to take this trend and run with it.

When I get dressed, I look for a classic outfit such as a T-shirt and jeans, but add a statement piece such as a bright jacket or printed shoes. One of my favorite pieces that I own is my camouflage jacket. Camouflage goes with a wide variety of colors and patterns, classifying itself as a basic staple piece for any wardrobe. I started off my outfit with a simple black V-neck and a pair of blue skinny jeans with a single stripe of leather running down the sides to give off an edgy, yet relaxed vibe. To channel my love for Valentino, I threw on my camouflage jacket and a jewel encrusted saber tooth necklace to take the look from simple to safari. The sand ankle booties are minimal in detail, reminding me of a Go-Go boot from the ‘70s, and they also work with the naturalistic nature of the entire outfit.

The pre-fall 2015 show inspires me to try out a preppier side to my wardrobe, while continuing to embrace my urban-minimalist style. It may take a few tries to get the right look, but the Valentino show has pointed me in the right direction!

Get My Look: 1. An oversized camouflage jacket. 2. Simple ankle boots. 3. Statement jeans.
