STYLE GURU STYLE: Boyfriend In Distress

Sneakers, varsity jackets and leather backpacks—what do these three trendy pieces have in common? They’re sporty, classic, college friendly and oh yeah… they’re taking over the runway!

The McQ Alexander McQueen fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection revived all the classic pieces that we’ve grown to love. As an international fashion enthusiast, I instantly fell in love with Sarah Burton’s Tokyo-inspired detailing on classic, American silhouettes. Much like her fabrics, these two dynamic cultures were brought together seamlessly.

What I love most about this ready-to-wear collection is that it is quite frankly just that; ready to wear. While many ready-to-wear collections strut effortlessly down the runway, very few are applicable to the average college student living on an “I’m broke” budget. This collection uses college staples such as graphic sweaters, distressed boyfriend jeans and denim jackets to create the perfect fall wardrobe. The McQ Alexander McQueen fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection makes it easy for any Fashionista to make the real world their personal runway.

Being a Style Guru this summer ultimately confirmed that my style is most definitely sporty-chic, or fabletic as I like to call it. Thus, once I stumbled across Look 12 of the McQ Alexander McQueen fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection, recreating it was a no brainer. Not only did I already own most of the pieces in this look but I was also eager to add a few minor touches to personalize this ensemble.

I began with a simple white V-neck and my favorite distressed boyfriend jeans. As simple as it may seem, the versatility of a white t-shirt deems it essential to any wardrobe, while boyfriend jeans are simply a 2015 must-have. I then threw on my favorite fedora and a pair of nude pumps to subtly add some variance to my black and white color scheme. Finally, I took this look from JV to varsity by accessorizing with my new ‘Max’ statement necklace from Mirina Collections and my Céline Nano luggage tote. Once this look was completed I knew it was time to put my game shades on so I threw on my all-black aviators and hit the road. Hey, though my war paint may be eyeshadow and nude heels may replace my cleats, don’t for a second underestimate my ability to conquer these streets!
