STYLE GURU STYLE: Back to Black

Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and not just because there are baked goods literally everywhere. I also enjoy how the campus trends of fall embrace simplicity and the layering of dark colors, which led me to pull inspiration from Tom Ford’s 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Much of this collection added on bits of flare to long-sleeved black dresses with open necklines, a classic look that can be dressed up or down for anyone’s wardrobe.

I’m sometimes perplexed by how much dark colored clothing I own in general, but fortunately this worked to my advantage when pulling off a fitted and classy version of my own to wear every day. A simple black outfit such as this one gave me a great blank canvas to embellish with my everyday style ideas!

I decided to pursue my own version of the look with a medium neckline dress. I admired the sophisticated black fitted fabrics of Ford’s collection, but I still wanted to keep the warms touches of fall colors. In the end, my regular go-to leggings worked their way into my outfit (as usual) and they added a deep burgundy layer to my overall look, which went well with my simple nude lipstick from Sephora. This particular shade added a subtle warmth that I substituted in place of jewelry. Leather boots are perfect for adding your own personality without sacrificing comfort, and mahogany brown is a great option if you happen to have a worn pair from last year just waiting for their time to shine once again!

Get My Look: 1. A simple black dress. 2. Some comfy leggings. 3. Nude lipstick.
