STYLE GURU STYLE: Altuzarra Teaches Us To Dress Smart

At the end of the spring semester, many of us go into autopilot as we continue to sip espresso, study for exams, cement internships for the summer and throw in the occasional trip to the gym. While these things continue to dominate our time, it seems that our fashion game is not as fierce as it was at the beginning of the semester. Our cute sloppy bun is no longer cute—just sloppy. The only summer trend that we are sporting is the grunge look with a T-shirt bought on vacation last summer, and the only accessory that sees the outside world is our backpack. Although this may make you feel a bit like Britney Spears in 2007, with a few simple tweaks, you can dress as smart as you will feel after acing your exams.

Sometimes, traditional blouses and sleek trousers are the best way to go. We see this in the Altuzarra spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Altuzarra shows us that wearing business attire can not only be fun, but as straightforward as ordering your favorite Starbucks latte. If you want to wear a blouse, go for it. Whether your preference leans toward the giddy gingham or the crisp white blouse, there is a perfect match for every Fashionista when it comes to a functional button-up.

I adore this collection because it is truly effortless while staying infallibly chic. Altuzarra’s collection dominated the runway with sleek lines, strong fabrics, subtle leather details and conservative hair and makeup.

I was inspired by Altuzarra to create my own professional look that did not take too much thought but still looked smart. I started out with a classic white button-up blouse, which I paired with cropped black trousers. While it may not seem like anything out of the ordinary, it is more important that it looks polished without taking too much time out of your busy schedule.  While I chose to embellish it with a few accessories, you can dress this up as much or as little as desired. The simplicity of the main pieces place more emphasis on the professionalism brought out in the sharp white collar and a great pair of pumps, which could be easily exchanged for a pair of pointed flats.

The bottom line is, if you want to have a busy schedule but do not want to neglect your fashionable reputation, a sleek button-up and a tailored pant will look as witty as you feel when it comes to naming your favorite fashion designers!
