STYLE GURU STYLE: All About Them Shapes

Smooth symmetry often streamlines the body in fashion. Vertical lines along the leg of a pant always make your legs look long and slim, horizontal lines provide depth and volume. Sometimes we forget about another pivotal difference—asymmetry. Taking inspiration from Versus Versace’s spring 2016 ready-to-wear show, I was taken by the presence of things that don’t necessarily match. Lines don’t always meet. And that’s perfectly okay.
As someone who is naturally tall, I often forget that there are ways to show off my long legs without them being a little shorter than the average article of clothing. An asymmetrically cut mini skirt does just the trick. Without falling too high above the knee, this skirt is a rocking way to show off those legs you’ve been toning all summer. The show’s bright metallic mini also provided a little influence for this skirt with a little bit of sheen.

A patterned tank top with an interesting pattern complements the eye-catching shape of the skirt. The Versus show was all about lines and what they can do for your body, and how they create an interesting shape. By pairing together two pieces that do just that individually, your eyes never get bored, they are always drawn to some portion of the outfit.

Black booties are simple. They don’t take away from all the motion up top of the outfit, and they’re a lot more comfortable than stilettos, I promise. Continuing the fun trend of shapes, these unique rings contrast the shape of the other, and the interesting designs are understated and not too overwhelming.

Get My Look: 1. An asymmetric skirt. 2. Simple makeup like this rosy cheek/lip combo. 3. Classic booties.
