STYLE GURU STYLE: A Flatform Kind of Summer

We all know that as soon as we hand in that last final and we feel a warm breeze in the air, all we want is to switch out our whole closet for some vacation-worthy outfits. Every summer, a new trend comes around that dictates every Fashionista’s wardrobe for the entire season. In my opinion, this time around will be the reign of the flatform. No, my dear fashion lovers, it is not a typo. I did not in any way mean platforms.

For those of you who are still unfamiliar with the term, flatforms are a hybrid between a flat shoe and a platform (hence the name). This trend, originally popularized in the ’90s, has come back with a vengeance in our current decade. Just like we saw in Nanette Lepore’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, flatforms are as versatile as you want them to be. They are the perfect compromise between fashion and comfort, and I must admit I am completely in love. Trust me, translating a runway trend into your everyday style has never been this easy.

This summer’s must-have footwear allows me to look stylish without having to agonize over the discomfort of high heels. Perfect for all the shenanigans I get myself into at this time of the year. My relationship with flatforms flourished thanks to these white leather wedges from Zara that I am wearing today. I paired them with some high-waisted jeans and a colorful crop top, also another summer essential I can’t get enough of. Being the sunglass freak that I am, I couldn’t leave out these VU Frameworks’ cat-eye sunnies. Just like my Coach cross-body bag, these glasses play off of the vibrant colors in my top to compliment the look to perfection. This complete outfit just cries out for some amazing sunny weather.

Get My Look: 1. Petite leather cross-body bag. 2. Cat-eye sunglasses. 3. Gold collar necklace.
