STYLE GURU PICKS: Winter Makeup

I don’t know about you, but putting on makeup eludes me. What I try to make a “cat eye” turns into more a “cat scratch” and I wouldn’t even begin to know how to put on lip liner. Lipstick is the only real makeup I use, since I can actually tell if it’s going outside of the lines. Otherwise, all things makeup related are a mystery.

For others, makeup is less of a foe and more of a friend. In an effort to help those of you, who like me, feel confused when walking down the makeup aisle at CVS, I’ve compiled a list of winter makeup picks from some of our Style Gurus. At least they know what they’re doing.

1. “Hustle” Shadow

Morgan Toliver

I love using burgundy on my lower lash line or in my crease with a neutral look. It adds a nice pop of color while still looking appropriate for daytime.”- Morgan Toliver, University of Virginia

2. Lime Crime Velvetines

Adriana Sanchez

Nothing is better than wearing a colored lipstick to amp up your outfit. I love the Velvetines because they do not smudge and the color stays all day.”- Adriana Sanchez, University of Notre Dame

3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush #14

Macy Harris

Eyebrows have of course been something very important to me latley in regards to my personal appearance. I have recently not left the house without filling in and shaping my brows with me Anastasia brow brush. It guides my brow gel on perfectly!”- Macy Harris, Ohio University

4. Tarte Foundation

Honestly, this is my go-to foundation all year round, but I especially love it when it gets colder. My skin has the tendency of being blotchy and red when it’s cold out and this full coverage foundation does the trick without being cakey (not cute). It’s also really easy to apply and a little goes a long way. I recommend this product to everyone!”- Emily Cole, SCAD

5. Liquid Eyeliner

Peyton Lee

It’s extremely rare for me to go a day without eyeliner. And when a routine works, you stick to it. My daily winter makeup routine has included L’Oreal Liquid Eyeliner for ages. When I wake up, I splash warm water on my face, then moisturize to keep my skin hydrated in the colder months. Then, I apply a warm color eyeshadow as a primer. I finish the look by creating a cat-eye using the Carbon Black shade to make my eyes pop. L’Oreal makes me look as natural and put together as I possibly can be while trying to keep up with my busy schedule!”- Peyton Lee, York University

6. MAC Lipstick- Matte

Mia Amaranto

Winter season is the perfect time to rock dark lips! So anytime I feel like making a bold statement, this is definitely my go-to product.”- Mia Amaranto, Western Washington University

7. NAKED2 Basics

Grace Lofgren

The Naked Basics 2 is amazing! I use it almost every day. It’s great for creating a simple, day look, but is also really nice for layering for a more dramatic look. It’s very versatile.”- Grace Lofgren, University of Wisconsin-Madison

8. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Meagan Sapashe

I am a huge fan of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in any color. With a super soft texture and the perfect shade for any occasion, they have become my go-to lip product!”- Meagan Sapashe, University of South Florida

9. NYX Setting Spray

Megan Quist

It stops the outside cold weather from making your skin dry out and or oily!”- Megan Quist, University of Minnesota

10. Studded Kiss Lipstick

Chiamaka Eleje (China Ej)

If I’m known for one thing, it would be my lipstick collection. However, I’m a firm believer that a lipstick collection cannot be complete without the perfect red lipstick. There are so many different shades of red, but Kat Von D’s “Vampira” pairs perfectly with my skin and has a rich, deep color that I love wearing during the winter season.”- Chiamaka Eleje (China Ej), Texas State University

11. NARS Blush

Lauren Hundt

NARS Orgasm is a cult classic for a reason but during the winter months it’s time for something a little more vampy. NARS blush in Dusty Rose is my go-to color because it gives your skin a sophisticated muse look that’s perfect for months spent bundled up.”- Lauren Hundt, Florida State University
