STYLE GURU PICKS—Sunglasses

There’s a lot of things we need to block out in this world, and that includes the haters and the sun’s harsh rays. While baseball caps and holding your hand up as a shield can help, sunglasses are the key to keeping those eyes protected and giving you a necessary air of mystery.

So stare at as many strangers as you want, and pick out your next pair of shades ASAP. And it never hurts to have more than one pair because they can go missing as fast as bobby pins.

1. New Look Round Blue Tint Sunglasses

Meg Rotter Edit

I love these shades because of the how the traditional, tortoise shell frames contrast with the tinted blue lenses.”- Meg Rotter, University of Wisconsin

2. Sunglasses in Graphite

Nicole Nelson

These sunglasses are classic with a twist. Although they have a simple shape, their lack of a frame makes them more unique than the others and is able to make a statement in a subtle way.”- Nicole Nelson, University of Missouri

3. Clubmaster Classic

Susana Galindo

These are my go-to sunglasses. I think everyone usually has their own version of that one pair they wear all the time, and for me this is it. When it comes to sunglasses, classic and simple will always go with anything.”- Susana Galindo, Georgia State University

4. Berini Sunglasses

Khody Nokeo

It’s not always bad to be a little catty and these pair of sunglasses definitely prove that. Get away from “the look” for now and have a little fun in the sun! I love how different these are.”- Khody Nokeo, University of Rhode Island

5. Lunar Flowerpatch Sunglasses

Emily Engle

This bold pair of Karen Walker sunglasses would push my style out of its comfort zone—in a great way. The thick frames are more wild than I would usually go for sunglasses, but for me, this spring is all about breaking style boundaries. As a redhead, blush pink is my color, so pairing it with larger frames makes the perfect standout piece for my style/coloring.”- Emily Engle, Drexel University

6. Persona + Clip

Filip Montgomery

I have been following massada for a while, and more specifically, I’m obsessed with the “clip” that you attach to their normal optical. The feature adds a lot of character and flare to otherwise mundane frames.”- Filip Montgomery, Brown University

7. Sundance

Rinette Bondoc

It’s so difficult to choose just one pair of Quay sunglasses; their whole line has quickly become one of my favorites. But I love these in particular because the distinct shape reminds me of a new and fresh take on the aviator.”- Rinette Bondoc, The Art Institute of California- Silicon Valley

8. Luck and Fate RTD3

Sarah Yung

Collaborating with such aspirational creative powerhouses as Opening Ceremony and Hood by Air, Korean brand Gentle Monster paves the way in artsy, directional silhouettes. This fragmented acetate pair exemplifies the intersection of experimental glamour and worldly élan.”- Sarah Yung, University of the Pacific

9. 55mm Round Mirrored Sunglasses

Jasmine Graham

“I’m obsessed with the style of these glasses, and I’m more in love because of the price. These glasses SCREAM ‘look at me and appreciate the look I’m serving you.'”- Jasmine Graham, Wayne State University

10. Girl Talk Cat-Eye Shades

Natalie Miller 2

Though normally I’m one for darker frames, this pair is an update on a vintage pair from the ’50s I own (I’m a bit of a sunglasses sucker) with the clear frames and lens tint. The cat eye shape seems to be back in this season and I think it’s a great modern twist on a vintage shape.”– Natalie Miller, College for Creative Studies

11. Aviator Classic

Alyssa Susnjara

This pair of timeless aviators adds an edgy pop to any outfit in winter, spring, summer or fall. Their signature green lenses shed light on this season’s rising trend of the color olive, while they keep the light out of your eyes.”- Alyssa Susnjara, University of Oregon

12. Deandra Sunglasses

Hollis Young

They’re baby pink and remind me of the pink ladies in Grease!”- Hollis Young, James Madison University
