STYLE GURU PICKS: Casualwear

February 22nd, 2016 at 2:00am

We all know the joy that comes with having no plans on the weekend, and being able to officially just “relax” (or at least, something close to that). With relaxation, brunching, coloring and inevitably binge-watching something on Netflix, you’ve got to be comfortable. While I’ve fallen victim to comfort over fashion more than once (#noshame), there’s really no need to when there are so many chic and sweatpant level of comfort options out there.

In order to help you unwind with some semblance of style, we asked some of our Style Gurus what their favorite casualwear pieces are. And let me tell you—you can definitely sit criss-cross applesauce in all of them. That means they officially pass my comfort test. So read on to find what your next casualwear piece will be for a lazy weekend (or week day, for that matter).

1. Vernon Beanie

Tori Ewald

Knit beanies are the answer to every lazy day because there is no need to style your hair for lounging. Throw on this beanie and you will master the chill look.” Tori Ewald, Hope College.

2. Under Wraps Pullover

Megan Perrero

This sweatshirt is so unbelievably warm. It’s my absolute favorite!” Megan Perrero, Columbia College Chicago.

3. Foldover Legging

Krisanta Filoteo

Yoga pants are my favorite when I’m dressing casual. I especially like ones that hit right above the ankles; they’re comfy, cute and you can pair them up with a t-shirt or sweater!” Krisanta Filoteo, Seattle Pacific University.

4. The Muscle Tee

Rainy Paul

The muscle tee by CURRENT/ELLIOTT is the ultimate casual tank. With its ultra soft fabric and loose fit, you will never want to take it off. I’m also obsessed with how comfortable it is and how it maintains its shape throughout the entire day. I’ve made it part of my spring uniform by pairing it with destroyed denim for an edgy look or white shorts to channel a more feminine side.” Rainy Paul, University of San Diego

5. adidas Tiro 15 Training Pants

Kaamilah Furqan

I love these jogger pants because they are both comfy and stylish! Whether I’m lounging around, running errands or going to the gym, these high quality track pants are a staple in my closet!” Kaamilah Furqan, Lehigh University

6. Wunder Under Pant III

Meghan Dare

I love my lululemon leggings! They are a closet staple that are definitely worth the investment.” Meghan Dare, Syracuse University.

7. Hooded Stripe Sweatshirt Dress

Emily Austin

A sweatshirt AND a dress?! I can die happy now. It’s so comfortable and yet so chic that you can wear it at home, class, running errands, almost anywhere and you’ll still look put together. For me, this is the best athleisure fashion this season.” Emily Austin, Middle Tennessee State University.

8. BDG Olly Flannel Shirt

Karisma Dorsey

This is a classic piece that everyone should own. During this harsh winter I layer mine with every sweater and dress that I wear. The fabric is thick, cozy and durable. A flannel of great quality can last you years.” Karisma Dorsey, Bowie State University.

9. High-Waisted Leggings

Madeline Johnson

I chose these leggings from H&M as one of my go-to casualwear items because they are super comfortable and are thicker than most leggings I have owned in the past. They are ideal because they are warm and not see-through.” Madeline Johnson, Kent State University.

10. Sweatshirt Cardigan

Jose A. Ortiz Jr.

Casualwear starts and ends with comfort. You can take this in all kinds of directions; check out this sweatshirt cardigan for example. No buttons, no finished edge, no hoodie drawstring, no extra details. This is basically a wavy cloak with a hoodie (Harry Potter would probably appreciate this). There is endless opportunity to dress this piece down or up should you want to add layers or not. I love finding pieces like this because they’re the hidden gems; they stand out without calling too much attention. Talk about invisibility…” Jose A. Ortiz Jr., University of Connecticut.

11. Henley Top

Annalise Crescenzo

This henley from Urban Outfitters is super soft! It’s perfect to wear with joggers when headed to the library. Sometimes I’ll wear a lace bralette underneath to dress it up!” Annalise Crescenzo, SUNY Oswego.
