STYLE GURU BIO: Tiffany Wong

Hello everyone! My name is Tiffany and I am currently a third year student at the University of Toronto, pursuing a double major in psychology and media studies with a Minor in Music. I love everything about media, from radio and tv shows to music and photography.

I would describe my style as mostly casual or grunge, and rarely girly. My passion for fashion mainly includes denim, leather, plaid, graphic tees, combat boots and metallic accessories. As a commuter myself, I find these fashion items to be a staple in my closet as they are comfortable to wear for everyday school outfits; they are also timeless, easily accessible and simple to mix and match.

My favorite colors to wear on an outfit will be all the cool color tones such as black, grey and all hues of blue. Combining the two styles that I love mentioned above, I started my outfit with a blue ombré pocket tee from Forever 21’s Contemporary – Life in Progress collection. Flecked with bleach spots and the gorgeously faded ombré, the design makes this basic boyfriend tee a little more interesting and unique.

By pairing my black jeggings from UNIQLO with black combat boots from the old school Doc Martens, this combination becomes a perfect grunge-cool outfit that screams “ultimate comfort” and can take you from day to night. Wearing black pants with black boots is also a styling trick that will elongates your legs, looking slimmer and taller. I also wore a black leather studded bracelet on one arm to complement the leather shoes.

To finish my outfit, I have a metallic grey purse from Christian Siriano, a classic design that can be carried as a handbag or a cross-body purse, perfect for any occasions from casual hangouts and date nights to formals interview or upscale events. I also wore a silver wing necklace and several rings to add what I feel to be a necessary pop of color and personal touch to balance my dark minimal outfit.

On the day of the photo shoot, I also brought a denim shirt from Gu (UNIQLO’s sister store) that I wore as a jacket indoors, which can be an additional touch to the whole outfit by tying it around the waist. You can also tie a flannel or a leather jacket to get the same relaxed laid-back look.

Simplicity is key in a casual-grunge look, by combining various wardrobe essentials that are versatile, a ’90s cool-kid vibe can be easily achieved with comfort, and this capsule wardrobe is definitely perfect for college students living in dorms.

This is my first semester as a Style Guru on CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to share with you all my journey searching for Fashionistas and Fashionistos around Toronto, showcasing the latest college fashion styles from one of the most multicultural cities in the world!
