STYLE GURU BIO: Taylor Metheny

Hi everyone! My name is Taylor Metheny and I am a sophomore at The Ohio State University (go Bucks!). This will be my second semester as a Style Guru and I could not be more excited to be returning! CollegeFashionista has really helped me to develop my writing and composition skills and my personal style. It also has provided me an amazing outlet to share both of these things!

I would describe my personal style as natural with a classic and dramatic twist. I love simplicity and neutrals, but also like to add a pop of color or a statement piece here and there. I can usually be seen wearing black or tan with a dramatic necklace or a bright scarf.

Here is an example of my favorite winter or spring trend – layering!

There is nothing better than a cozy sweater. They are my ultimate wardrobe must-have during these chilly months. For this look, I chose to layer my favorite chunky knit sweater over a red and black flannel. I chose the red and black flannel, because the black tied the two pieces together. I rolled up the sleeves of my sweater once and rolled my flannel sleeves over my sweater, so the layering could also be seen at my wrists as well as at the neckline and the hem.

I chose to pair my shirt and sweater combo with a pair of black skinnies. Black skinnies pull together any look and make your outfit look more put together than a normal pair of jeans would.

My look is completed with a pair of studded flats that add my signature dramatic twist. I also added a statement necklace, a silver watch and a black cross-body. I chose to keep all of my accessories the same colors- silver and black so nothing was competing for attention.

I kept my makeup fairly simple, but added a pop of color with a red matte lipstick that matched the red in my flannel. If you are going to make a bold makeup choice, like a bold lip, shadow or eyeliner, I find it best that the rest of your makeup is simple. So that, just like with my accessories, nothing is competing for attention.

This look captures my personal style as well as my personality. It seems quite simple, but after you examine it a bit it shows to be fun and dramatic.
