STYLE GURU BIO: Sophie Andreesen

Hi and welcome! I am so excited to have the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista this semester. My name is Sophie Andreesen and I am currently a sophomore at Indiana University studying journalism with a minor in apparel merchandising, in hopes to some day move to New York and have a coveted position writing for the ultimate fashion publication, Vogue.

I have had a love of fashion ever since I can remember, whether it be playing dress up during play dates with my kindergarten classmates or begging my mom to take me to Limited Too or Abercrombie & Fitch. We all know you weren’t anyone without a pair of pink gauchos and a denim skirt, which soon became close to a uniform as my friends and I began to transition into middle school. Thank goodness styles have changed, but denim skirts are back!

In 2014 my family and I moved to the suburbs of Chicago. I know, not the same thing as Chicago the city, but much closer than where I previously lived in Kansas. I can honestly say this was one of the best things that has occurred in my life thus far, giving me a whole new perspective on change, people and how to adapt to new situations.

My new home is in a town right along Lake Michigan where there is a train line that is very easily able to take you downtown in under an hour, because avoiding traffic is everything. I have spent many days taking advantage of this amazing service, to do some of my favorite things in life, shop and eat! I have become so familiar with Michigan Avenue shopping and new “trendy” restaurants in Gold Coast that I could most likely lead a tour. Among some of my favorite stops are Zara, Topshop, Cusp by Niemen Marcus and Aritzia, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that 95% of my wardrobe soley consists of the first two from this list.

As I have grown up and been introduced into somewhat of an “adult lifestyle”, even though college is still pretty far off from truly being an adult, my style has been refined and is now a mixture of simple pieces with a cool twist. I am such a “girly-girl” (even though I have grown up with all brothers), but I love to wear black and things that are a little more on the edgy side opposed to super feminine. I am not huge on accessories, though I wear the same three rings everyday, but love to spice up an outfit with a cool pair of shoes and a pair of sunglasses. You can NEVER go wrong with sunglasses! For me less is for sure more, but in saying that I like to mix it up day by day.

I hope you enjoy this post and keep up with everything I love on my Instagram!
