STYLE GURU BIO: Sophia Wnek

Years and years ago, I was once the little girl who wore dress-up clothes all over public places. Donned in a velcro dress with plastic kitten heels and a tiny purse filled with toy money, I strutted down those grocery aisles and wowed my fellow kindergarten classmates. Now, I’ve come to the realization that I do the same thing, even as a college student on the brink of total adulthood. Some things never change!

The past 12 years of my education were spent wearing modest plaid uniforms. I’d say that this propelled me to look nicer on the weekends when I was free to express myself. College life has finally given me the chance to express this fashion-forward aspect of my personality on a daily basis.

My style hasn’t just changed year to year, it changes every day! The wonderful thing about fashion is that it is an ever evolving form of wearable art. It inflicts moods on both yourself and the people around you. That is why I always follow the motto, “Always look your best. You never know who you are going to see or who you are going to meet.” That’s not to say that your goal is to impress people. You should wear whatever you desire! By looking good on the outside, you feel good on the inside. And feeling good on the inside impacts all  other aspects of your life!

My appreciation for costumes as a child lead to my college major, Costume Design. I came to the conclusion that I could not have a career that would forbid the use of my creativity. Costume design blends my love for clothing with my love of theatre. What better way to spend your days than doing what you love?

This look consists of a vintage skirt dressed up with modern, edgier pieces. The elegant floral skirt with lace trim balances out the spikes of the bracelet and the buckles on the boots. And the shirt’s star pattern miraculously works well with the skirt’s floral pattern. I’d say this outfit is not only the epitome of my style, it’s a visual representation of me: a beautiful mess!

I am interested and intrigued in seeing how my style choices evolve these next four years. Being on Temple University campus in the beautiful city of Philadelphia will give me plenty of inspiration! With the plethora of art museums, thrift shops and unique people, my options and opportunities are limitless. I look forward to exploring this city through its style and I am so excited to begin my freshman year of college as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista!
