STYLE GURU BIO: Sophia Edgar

Hey there, it’s me Soph. Sophia Marie Edgar was a little too formal for my liking and got lost a long time ago. I’m a Minneapolis, Minnesota native studying at Indiana University and living in the crazy college town of Bloomington, IN, where I attempt to juggle majors in finance, international business and law & ethics with a minor in Spanish. However, my true passion lies within the fashion world.

This all started when I was 8 years old and my mother got hooked on the first season of Project Runway. She watched it religiously and I began to catch onto the thrill and creativity it entailed each week as designers worked vigorously to impress the judges with a new outfit. As a new season began and I grew older, I became more invested in the show and fashion grew to be a hobby of mine. I remember using my hard-earned allowance money to buy new sketch books and pencils so that I could fill them with designs and ideas that flooded my head. For my 10th birthday, I asked for subscriptions to magazines such as Teen Vogue, Glamour, Elle and Cosmopolitan. I filled my room with cut-outs of different outfits and inspiration from these magazines. These styles were bold, edgy and different; not something that was easy for a shy grade school girl to pull off. So as to be accepted as an adolescence, I grudgingly continued to dress the norm of my school which was filled with preppy and traditional peers.

My real expression with fashion began when I started my freshman year at Indiana University. I was surrounded by people from all over the world who wore a variety of styles and trends. This diversity inspired me to develop my own style. I fell in love with a mix of an edgy, grungy and boho look. However, as I grow and evolve, so does my style. There is so much beauty in this world and I am constantly inspired by it. I can’t wait to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team doing something I am so passionate about. Stay tuned friends!
