STYLE GURU BIO: Serena Shroge

Hello fellow Fashionistas/os! My name is Serena and I am a fashion merchandising student with a minor in marketing at Kent State University. The Fashion School has given me so many opportunities to explore my major and I am forever thankful for that. I am on the executive board for the Fashion Student Organization, the largest fashion organization on campus. I was also lucky enough to make it on to the production team for the school’s prestigious annual fashion show. Everything I do revolves around my passion to succeed in the fashion industry, which is why I am writing this article! This will be my second semester as a Style Guru and I am beyond thrilled to return! I had an incredible experience writing for CollegeFashionista last semester and I cannot wait to scope out this summer’s hottest trends and share them with you.

If anyone knows me, they know that I don’t have one particular aesthetic. Each day is a new day to switch up my look to reflect a current mood or interest. For instance, the NBA season is coming to an end with the Finals, so I decided to go for a more urban athletic look. I’m nowhere near being a basketball MVP, but it’s playoff season and I can pretend, right? By next week my wardrobe will probably reveal something from a parallel universe and I’ll be soaking up the sun in something pale pink and bohemian. It’s intriguing to me that clothing has the ability to communicate someone’s personality whether it be one particular identity or, in my case, a variety.

Today’s focal point is a bright pop of color with my favorite bodysuit and a distressed pair of high-waisted shorts. I threw on a long crochet vest with lots of fringe to add some fun movement. I also decided to sport my white Dr. Martens and a silver body chain. I personally love body jewelry because it gives a little extra flash that goes beyond the classic bracelets, earrings and necklaces. I always encourage friends to take risks experimenting with trends and have fun stepping out of the box. Life is too short to wear boring clothes!
