STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Reardon

When your college campus is like a runway, it’s hard not to show off your individual style in the hallways. My name is Samantha, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team this fall semester! As a former fashion columnist for my university’s newspaper, I chronicled the latest style news and trends for all the Fashionista/o’s out there, who I will now (fingers crossed) get to photograph!

As a kid, I was studying the Olsen twins’ fashion ages before the pair were written into rap lyrics. But primarily, music and film influenced my artwork and my clothing, and eventually, it gave me the mad respect I now possess for DIY culture. As I got older, I began crocheting my own pieces, making my own T-shirts and taking a Sharpie to everything in sight. I thought, “I could do this for a living!” But fashion, or art school, was not to be. I switched my gears to magazines, which I had always loved, and thus landed in Georgia State University’s Journalism program.

In this look, I’m channeling a bit of ’60s pop and “God Help the Girl” with a Breton striped top, an American Apparel mini skirt, black opaque tights and simple black loafers. Tights are a staple in my closet, of many colors and patterns, but black opaque ones go with everything when you just want to be chic or goth or glamorous as hell all at once. And hey, you probably already are!
