STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha McClendon

Hi y’all! First off, my name is Sam and I am a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, I am a senior European Studies major and am hoping to pursue a graduate degree in International Fashion Marketing and Communications next year!

Growing up, I was always mesmerized with the world of fashion. I would draw fashion sketches in my middle school art classes, and would cut out pages in Vogue of trends that I wanted to dress like. Even until today, the fascination has not withered; while studying abroad in Europe this summer, I collected a Vogue from each country I visited as a souvenir instead of postcard. Besides my ongoing obsession with fashion magazines, I love following street style bloggers and keeping up with the latest fashion news. I have always known that I wanted to work in fashion, and I cannot wait to start a career in the industry that I love. My style is ever-changing, and I am always looking for ways to mix up basic pieces with new fashion trends.

As a college student who strongly dislikes mornings and lives in the humid Texas heat, I know it can be hard to dress fashionable for class instead of wearing a T-shirt and running shorts, so I am excited to show how students here still dress stylishly while keeping cool and facing the early mornings. Consecutively voted as one of the worst dressed cities in america by GQ magazine, Austin has a reputation for bad fashion, so I hope to prove that wrong by showcasing some of the many students who have their own unique style.

While trying to prepare myself for the “real-world” with a full class schedule and two internships, this semester is going to fly by! So, I am extremely thankful to have this opportunity as an outlet to provide my own perspective on styles trending around campus. I hope that you will enjoy reading my posts as much as I enjoy reading yours. Hats off to the new semester!
