STYLE GURU BIO: Renee Smith

Hey y’all! I’m so excited to be back for my second semester as a Style Guru. To tell you a little about myself, I’m Cajun French through and through (and ever so proud of it, can you tell?). I am a senior studying writing, literature and publishing at Emerson College. This internship is the perfect bridge between my professional and personal interests.

We’ve all heard  it before that style is more important than fashion. Your personal style is so important. While it can and does improve my mood on a daily basis, it is not just for your self confidence. How you present yourself to the world shows a level of professionalism and seriousness.  Looking like you can take on the world makes you feel like you can.

Lately I’ve been asking myself WWWD, What Would Wednesday (Addams) Do? This past fall I’ve found myself so inspired by Wednesday, you can see in my last STYLE GURU BIO that my love of white collars is still going strong. It’s hard to believe that before I moved to Boston, I didn’t own a single black item of clothing. My southern mama thought I was too young to wear black and I thought it looked too harsh for my features. These days my collection of black dresses would make any Addams proud. If I had to sum it up, I’d say my style was “modern urban Wednesday.”

It sounds a little weird, but that’s what style is for, to get a little weird. Have fun with your look and do something a little outrageous. Take that daring risk! I dyed my hair grey and it has become a daily source of energy and confidence. We might not all be so brave; perhaps for you, a risk might be buying that first piece of black clothing. But ladies and gents, go for it. Do whatever it is that makes you feel like yourself. Walk with confidence and pride this spring, and do come back to see more of what’s inspiring me this semester.
