STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Zuckerberg

Hello Fashionistas/os! I’m so excited to be a Style Guru this semester! I’m from Detroit, MI, but I now live in Chicago, IL. I’m a freshman at Columbia College Chicago majoring in fashion business. Other than fashion, I am passionate about dance, photography, traveling and music. I am also obsessed with makeup; my favorite brands include ColourPop, Morphe Brushes, Urban Decay and Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Anyone who knows me knows that I am an enthusiast of winged eyeliner, bold lipsticks and the color burgundy.

I love any form of creative expression. Dance has always been a huge part of my life. I started dancing at age 6 and studied a variety of styles including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern and contemporary. I even choreographed and performed in my high school’s musical production of The Addams Family. I have also studied photography for 6 years. I love to photograph fashion and capture my friend’s personal styles through my photography.

Music culture has been one of my greatest influences. (Note the Lollapalooza wristband!) The carefree attitude and positive vibes from concerts and music festivals has made me come out of my shell in so many ways and helped make me the person that I am today. Not only am I a more confident person and better at connecting with others, but I am much more willing to try new things, which has really influenced my personal style. I love experimenting with different styles of fashion and cosmetics.

What I love about fashion and cosmetics is that the industries are constantly changing and evolving. There is always something new and exciting in the industry. The best thing is that nothing is permanent. Every night I take off my outfit and wipe off my makeup knowing that when I wake up the next morning, I can give myself a completely different look… literally anything I want! That’s awesome! I wouldn’t say that I have a signature style because it really depends on my mood for the day. One day I’ll look boho, the next grungy, the next classic. Whatever I decide, I always use fashion as a way to express who I am.

Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to blog for you all this semester!
