STYLE GURU BIO: Olivia Barry

Hi all! My name is Olivia Barry and I’m a senior at SUNY New Paltz. I study International Relations and Communications. I am very excited to be a Style Guru this semester because I love fashion and I always have. Living in New Paltz, NY I have seen lots of different styles. People here are not scared to try something new or to break out of fashion “norms.” Students’ sport very classic pieces like trench coats and red lips, alongside others who boldly pull off purple hair and stiletto nails. There is always something to see and always someone to stylistically learn from here in New Paltz.

It is hard for me to put my style into a particular category. My favorite season to dress for is autumn because riding boots are my favorite pieces. They are an absolute staple in my wardrobe. I like to wear fitted clothes and I have a weakness for leather jackets. My style tends to be very feminine and put together but I don’t mind throwing an adventurous piece into my outfit from time to time, such as a large, colorful ring or a new hat. Lately, I have been trying to experiment with bright, different colored lipsticks.

As I said above, I have always had an interest in fashion. From a young age, I have been very style conscious. At the end of high school I started working in Saks Fifth Avenue and that is when I really learned what makes a good piece of clothing. There, we were trained on how to chose the best colors and cuts for different people. The way a simple shape of a shirt can transform a person’s image is very interesting to me. I developed a strong affinity towards French Connection and alice + olivia because I thought those brands were affordable, fun and versatile. Once I started to intern and work in a more professional setting, I grew an appreciation towards Theory and Vince. Many of their pieces are classy, toned down and though they are more expensive, those brands are definitely well made and worth the price.

I am constantly being inspired by the styles that I see around me and I can’t wait to share them all with you. Thanks for reading this little bit about me! Stay #RAD, Fashionistas!
