STYLE GURU BIO: Nicole Griffin

Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Nicole, and this is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I am currently a freshman studying Marketing, Supply Chain Management and Spanish at Rutgers University! The goal is to become a buyer for Bergdorf Goodman.

I definitely inherited my love for fashion from my mom (she has over 100 pairs of shoes in her walk-in closet that she “shares” with my dad). Whenever she would receive her monthly issue of InStyle Magazine, I would read it cover-to-cover before she even got to see it. Then, when she was done, it would become mine; I would cut out the looks that I loved and make a collage of them on my wall.

As I got older, and as social media started to dominate basically every aspect of my life, I started to follow/heavily stalk fashion bloggers on Instagram. Their posts began to serve as inspiration for my own wardrobe. Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat introduced me to my first pair of Superga white canvas sneakers (that I now wear everywhere). Arielle Nachmani of SomethingNavy showed me that fur is still, and will always be, in. I hope that I can have the same influence on my readers that these women have had on me.

I can go on and on about my favorite trends, designers and pieces (and trust me, I will throughout the semester), but I feel like those aspects of fashion are always changing with the seasons. However, something that is uniform for me throughout the year is a turtleneck. I have about ten of them in sweater, crop top and long sleeve styles. I know, turtlenecks can have a grandma-esque connotation, but personally I think they can look killer on someone of any age (even guys!). So I will definitely be keeping my eye out for Fashionistas/os rocking this staple throughout the semester.

Style is something that contributes to the beauty of life because it has a different meaning for each and every person. That’s one of the many things I love about fashion—everyone has a unique background story associated with the clothes they wear. It’s amazing how different things influence different people!

I’m so beyond excited to bring you weekly posts about the exciting and diverse students of Rutgers University and the clothes they wear to express themselves. Be sure to check back every Wednesday for my articles and, Scarlet Knights, keep an eye out for me on campus!
