STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Peterson

Hey college cats.

My name is Megan, and I’m returning for my second round as a Style Guru this semester. I’ll be a senior at Indiana University—how the heck did that happen—studying journalism and apparel merchandising. However, this time around I will be reporting on fashion from abroad in the lovely city of -drumroll please- Florence, Italy. I don’t speak a word of Italian so wish me luck approaching fashionable strangers with a camera, per favore and grazie. Okay, so I know two words.

The first time I really got into fashion and style was at age 12, after I went overseas for the first time to Barcelona, Spain. At the time, Aéropostale T-shirts with monkeys on them were my idea of chic, and I was way too excited about showing off my purple Crocs. By the end of the trip, I was trying to sketch outfits in my notebooks and started to really get into finding my personal style beyond graphic T-shirts and rubber shoes. Shout out to Spain for the wakeup call.

If I were an article of clothing, I’d be a sundress because it’s classic, feminine and conducive to twirling.

For this look, I selected a white sundress with a plunging neckline and paired it with black accessories for optimal contrast. A white sundress is effortlessly chic and gives you room to play around with your accessories. I chose to give the ensemble a boho aesthetic by throwing on a drapey black cardigan, a felt hat and a handful of gold rings. Strappy heels create the perfect vibe for a lunch date, but a pair of flats could easily make this outfit campus friendly. Finally, a structured teal handbag and some berry lipstick bring some lively pops of color to the look. I’ve come a long way since I was 12, people.

I’m looking forward to exploring fashion from abroad and sharing it with you guys this semester. Wish me luck with the whole language barrier thing. I may not speak Italian, but I definitely speak shoes. Ciao!
