STYLE GURU BIO: Megan Helberg

Others have described me as diligent, kind, and most of all…quiet. While I would certainly agree with all of these descriptors to a certain extent, this particular article is about me and how I see myself—not about how other people see me.

That being said, my name is Megan Helberg and I am a junior studying Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa.  I have a lot of interests.  In fact, if I had to describe myself I would say that I am indecisive and flighty.  While those terms generally have a negative connotation, I do not see anything wrong with describing myself that way.  I like to try new things, especially when it comes to fashion.

While my taste is constantly changing from boho to grunge and everything in between, one thing remains the same: comfort.  Regardless of what I am wearing I absolutely must be comfortable.

I like this particular outfit for its comfort and its simplicity.  The black V-neck is a basic staple that everyone should own—and if you’re like me you have three. I love the print on these shorts because it’s fun but it isn’t too much (and as an added bonus, the cotton shorts are incredibly comfortable).  The embellished sandals and chunky jewelry complete the look.

Additionally, the neutral colors fit the fall season which is quickly approaching, but the best part about this outfit is its versatility.  I would wear this during the day as I walked the streets of downtown Iowa City visiting thrift stores, or I would wear it out to dinner at my favorite sushi place.

Ultimately, this outfit is perfect for me because it’s simple and I feel good wearing it.  These printed cotton shorts have been in this summer and by next summer they will probably be out, but I will have changed my taste long before then anyway.

Luckily for me, the only consistent thing about the world of fashion is that it is constantly changing.  That is perfect for such a flighty girl like me.  I can’t wait to spend this semester sharing my favorite cute but comfy trends with all of you!
