STYLE GURU BIO: Maria Peguero

I’m María Peguero, an 18-year-old freshman who studies in Barcelona, my hometown.

My passions? Expressing my inner world through art and writing. I’m an amateur writer and poetess. But I don’t just write, I explore in my inner self beyond words through painting. It’s the best therapy for self-care, trust me.

Besides to devouring books I devour IKEA cookies. I used to do so with Nutella: “Die young, leave a body full of chocolate” they said. “It will be fun,” they said. But I discovered that I’m lactose intolerant and had to say goodbye to chocolate forever. Cries in Spanish. And if you don’t find me eating, you can catch me at the beach surfing the Mediterranean baby waves.

But not all that glitters is gold, I also have to study. Though I have so much fun studying that maybe everything is indeed gold. I’m majoring in humanities at Pompeu Fabra University. I’m not specialized yet, but I’ll choose art among history, literature and philosophy branches as I’m especially interested in the relationship between art and fashion since I discovered Raf Simons. The print of one of his Dior dresses was a painting by Sterling Ruby and the way of uniting a changing world as fashion with the eternity of visual arts left me speechless. It was at that moment when something clicked, fashion became a part of me.

For this look I wanted to represent myself 100 percent. An embroidered shirt with flowers that reminds me of southern Spain and flamenco (you can do your unique top with a white shirt and embroidered patches); a pair of mom jeans that match my easy going personality, and a pair of slippers because, who doesn’t love siesta and thus sleeping shoes? Not me.
