STYLE GURU BIO: Margaret Voss

Hello, my name is Margaret Voss, but everyone calls me Maggie. I am a senior Public Relations major at Ball State University. Public Relations has been a great influence in my interest in fashion. It’s not part of the fashion department (I’m sure everyone knows this), but it’s a major that focuses on putting your best foot forward.

Ever since I was able to pick out my own clothes, fashion has interested me. I’d flip through pages of Seventeen and Vogue envying every product that I laid my eyes on. I couldn’t afford the latest styles, but through the use of thrift stores and hand-me-downs I created my own look. It’s interesting to see how much my style has evolved through the years.

I would describe my style as preppy-afrocentric. Afrocentric style focuses on emphasizing African culture. This style helps me connect back with my Haitian roots. My fashion icons are Rihanna, Erykah Badu, Willow Smith and others who enjoy expressing their personalities through fashion.

The right outfit for me has the power to change my entire mood. When I feel down I dress up by utilizing bold colors. I don’t hold back when it comes to clothes. In this outfit, I wore a burnt orange button-down mini skirt that was purchased from a thrift store. The skirt was paired with a dark blue tank top and jean jacket, which I bought from Forever 21. I love to wear statement pieces which is why I added a triangle pendant choker to finish the look.

Hope you guys are as excited as I am for what this fall semester holds!
