STYLE GURU BIO: Maggie Bortner

Hello, Fashionistas! I am Maggie Bortner, a senior at Sacred Heart University majoring in Marketing and minoring in Fashion Merchandising and French. I am so excited to be a part of the CollegeFashionista summer program and share my fashion wisdom to readers.

Fashion, for me, is a means of expression as well as trial and error. I have always lived strongly by the meaningful quote of Oscar Wilde, “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” Any person who is particularly close to me would know that my sense of fashion has always pushed the boundaries. Whether it was donning a fedora two years before it became a trend or mixing a flower print dress with snakeskin booties, I was told my appearance stood out among most. Over the years, my experimental stages slowed down and I realized my truest sense of fashion. Fortunately for my parents’ wallet, and certainly my own, my closet decreased to items of clothing I would actually wear on a daily basis. I settled on a wardrobe of “bohemian sleek”, featuring a mixture of loose and classic fitted ensembles in patterned and plain materials, mostly all purchased from H&M. My inspirations stem from the countless over-read pages of my Style magazines, Gossip Girl and fashion bloggers such as Damsel in Dior and Sincerely, Jules.

Fashion is one of the largest growing industries in the world. It is in everything we do, see and wear. It challenges us to evolve and grow as fast as the trends change while not spending top dollar. Each individual has their own take on the ideas of the fashion world, which creates a unique culture of multiple identities. I hope to stimulate interest in my readers by providing them with an outlook into these identities. Read, enjoy, find inspiration and share!
