Hello there! My name is Maddie Kim and I am a sophomore at Iowa State University studying apparel, merchandising and design. This is my first semester being a Style Guru and I am thrilled!
For me, fashion has become a creative outlet that I can show to the world without having to speak. Yes, that most definitely means I was picking out mismatched outfits of two different kinds of plaid when I was in kindergarten. Since then, I have found that fashion drives my passion for creativity and individuality. I love nothing more than to incorporate different styles into an ensemble to bring about a fresh new take on a piece of clothing that before seemed dull.
When I am not spending my time oodling over fashion, I am most likely drinking coffee or partaking in some activity related to music. I play the violin and enjoy listening to pretty much any genre of music. However, indie and alternative are at the top of my list. Traveling to new places, both big and small, is also a passion of mine but, Charleston, South Carolina, forever has my heart. I have recently been trying to learn the ways of yoga and can say that those balancing poses are just as hard as they look! I promise I am not doing it just for an excuse to wear cute athletic leggings.
Although I enjoy a good lazy day with yoga pants, I really do like to get dressed up and feel confident in what I am wearing. Today I went with a playful combination of this chambray jumpsuit (which is an automatic score because it has pockets) and a classic striped shirt. I paired this look with a red leather purse that is the perfect size for traveling light in the summertime. To dress the look up a little bit I picked out my favorite Steve Madden peep toe booties and threw on a wide brimmed fedora. I am all about mixing and matching different combinations to create a unique ensemble.
