STYLE GURU BIO: Mackenzie Martin

Hey there Fashionistas! My name is Mackenzie Martin and I’m a sophomore studying media, culture, and communications at NYU. I grew up in a rural town in upstate New York and in the Big Apple. I developed my interest in fashion as I developed my interest in becoming a true “New Yorker”—whatever that means. I’m still trying to figure out.

I love animals and am a serial pet collector. You can always find me jamming out to some eccentric new tunes—or show tunes. The best way to win my heart is by feeding me or at least eating next to me. My interests include, but are not limited to, pizza rolls, tattoo art, Instagram photo editing, and more importantly—Instagram caption writing.

My sense of style closely reflects my personality. My roommate told me that I often look like I belong on a motorcycle. I’m still hoping that’s a good thing. I notoriously love over sized faux fur coats, so it’s easy to say that my style mantra is “go big or go home.” In high school I used to push the fashion boundaries regularly with all denim, blue hair dye, and (or) all leather everything. My personal style is still rather hard to describe, though I’ve been told people see things in stores and know they scream “Mackenzie.”

The outfit I’m wearing is a perfect example of my love for mixing classics with edgy eye-catching pieces. The gray turtleneck screams “bring me home to meet your mother.” While the leather trim on the black scarf knows I always love a good adventure. The gray over-the-knee boots are the focus of the outfit. They aren’t your classic black boots so they keep things interesting.

Join me this semester on my trek through the concrete jungle in search of furs so big they’d run the place! I’ll be on the lookout for the edgiest street style downtown so you’ll know just what to wear.
