STYLE GURU BIO: Leana Rae Concepcion

September 1st, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Leana Rae Concepcion and I am currently a sophomore at Pace University in Manhattan! I am so excited to be starting my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista…well, excited is definitely an understatement!

Being a Musical Theatre major has definitely given me plenty of opportunities to express myself in more ways than I can even begin to explain. From the countless hours of soul-searching to find the humanity in a character to playing characters a little too close to home.

Fortunately, I have always been able to turn to fashion as a means of self expression. As corny as that sounds, it’s one of the honest facts of my reality.

But it wasn’t all cupcakes and unicorns. (I don’t know where all of these cliché statements are coming from… but I am not mad about it.) There was a dark time long ago, and by long ago I mean my freshman/sophomore year of high school, when the staple items in my wardrobe were Ugg boots and a sweatshirt. Which is ironic because I grew up in California, so I had no reason to even own UGG boots. But, these “staples” only complimented my braces and dorky glasses ever so perfectly. Can you sense my sarcasm through text? I hope so.

So, if I am not living, breathing proof that it does indeed get better, then I do not know what other proof you need!

Some other fun facts about myself are that I LOVE Corgis. I love planning! Being OCD and Type A definitely has its perks. School supply shopping is my favorite time of the year. I enjoy listening to podcasts. My favorite color is pink. I love obnoxiously quoting movies and musicals in my every day life. I am constantly searching for the perfect vanilla Chai tea latte. I am an avid wanderer and enjoy being extremely corny.

And to quote one of my biggest movie guilty pleasures, “Well, you probably know more than you ever wanted to, so be careful when you ask next time,” Nick Jonas said in Camp Rock 2. Throwback, am I right?

P.S. I should probably mention something about my personal style. My style definitely changes in the different seasons. In the summer, I am more girly yet laid back at the same time. But come winter and fall, I love being able to rock more feminine and sophisticated looks. You won’t usually catch me in anything other than a heeled bootie and am a strong advocate for jewelry and mixing metals! I absolutely adore playing with the changing trends and finding ways to incorporate them smoothly into my existing wardrobe!

If you take anything from this article it should be this quote, which happens to also be my mantra, and what it means to YOU.

“She believed she could, so she did.”

So be you and stay fearless.
