STYLE GURU BIO: Laura Schier

Hi everyone! My name is Laura, and I am so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this fall! I am currently a sophomore at Fordham University, specifically in Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business. At the moment I am majoring in business administration, but I’m thinking of changing my major to marketing. I’m going to minor in French; I love the language and the country, and I really hope to study abroad in Paris for a semester at some point during college. You might ask what any of this has to do with fashion. Well, I am considering pursuing a career in fashion, and majoring in business will definitely help with that. What kind of job I would like to have in the future is still up for grabs; I am not entirely sure yet what I specifically want to do in the world of fashion, but I am so lucky to have the opportunity to explore all of my options!

Fashion has always been one of my biggest ways of expressing myself. I’ve always thought of myself as a free spirit; I love exploring and trying new things that are sometimes out of my comfort zone, and this way of thinking is definitely reflected in my wardrobe. I absolutely love experimenting with outfits and trying new styles and patterns. At the moment, I tend to pivot towards what I call NYC street-casual; casual/cute outfits with components that make them stand out in a subtle way. For example, I love pairing a simple outfit with colorful beaded jewelry to make the look pop. The outfit I picked out for this blog post (my first official blog post!!) is an olive green crop top, distressed boyfriend jeans and gray Steve Maddens. Since we’re transitioning from summer to fall, I picked the olive green top and gray Steve Maddens, since these colors can work for both seasons. I gave my hair loose waves to keep the look light and girly, contrasting it slightly with the distressed jeans for more of an urban edge. I decided to accessorize with beaded jewelry; the simple gold rings and turquoise, light blue and cream-colored bracelets make the look pop. I finished off the outfit with a tan cross-body bag. The color can work in both summer and fall outfits, and its touch of gold give the look a slightly fancier feel.

Thank you so much for reading. I can’t wait to share more of my love for fashion with you all.
