STYLE GURU BIO: Krista Mayanja

September 9th, 2015 at 11:48am

Hi there, my name is Krista Mayanja and I just started my senior year of college at Iowa State University. I’m double majoring in Marketing and Apparel Design, so I’ll be doing a victory lap next year. Upon graduation, I hope to be working in a fast pace fashion/design firm or a tech start-up in New York or San Francisco.

Growing up, my mom used to design clothing for my older sister and I. So, one of my fondest memories was going to the button store to pick out which ones I wanted. These trips eventually prompted me to start taking various sewing classes when I was twelve. It wasn’t until my freshman year of college that I started to refine my personal style.

On a day-to-day basis, my style can be described as laid back and comfortable with a touch of hipster/grunge. I’m weak for cool graphic tees, beanies and a killer pair of kicks. Most of my fashion inspiration comes from street style shots or YouTubers. My favorites are: Jess from Sunbeamsjess and Jenn Im from Clothesencounter. Jess effortlessly styles a range of different pieces from designer to high-end street and Jenn is your go-to gal if you need tips on styling pieces for specific occasions or trends.

At the moment, I have been loving spicing up my outfits with this Free People choker, white Vans sneakers and these tonal round sunglasses from Urban Outfitters. Although, I think the best way to shop is to thrift, because you can score one-of-a-kind pieces and help the environment by recycling.

This is for my first post for College Fashionista and can’t wait for the rest of the semester!
