STYLE GURU BIO: Katelyn Smith

Hi! My name is Katelyn Smith, and I’m an upcoming senior at the University of Georgia studying Public Relations and Fashion Merchandising. I’m a Kardashian fanatic (judge me or not), and I have more hair than I know what to do with. I have over 400 books in my Kindle library, and guess what? I’m absolutely in love with fashion.

Until college, I had no idea how extensive the fashion world was or that I could actually make a career out of it. Coming from such a small town in the South, the nearest mall was an hour away, so the diversity of style was slim to none. Even with such limited resources, I found myself dressing a little differently than everyone else having a quirkier taste in clothing. There were certain things that my friends would label as “something Katelyn would wear.”

Last semester, London was my home. Being a huge style capital, my style was heavily influenced by the edgy energy that London provides. Its edginess is why I chose London in the first place, and my love of fashion skyrocketed after spending quality time with some of the most fashionable people in the world.

My style is ever changing. The seasons and the trends influence how I dress most of the time, but I throw a little of my edgy style in with whatever I wear. If I’m wearing something sweet looking or pink, I add a spiked necklace. I like to make my style my own because in my head, I make the rules.

I have an odd obsession with eccentric jewelry. I’m always keeping up with jewelry trends by following Bauble Bar on Instagram or rummaging through my mom’s old jewelry for vintage pieces that I like. There’s always something new to find, and I love the massive change one small, detailed piece can give an outfit. I recently found a sterling silver choker that belonged to my grandmother, and I add it to my outfits when they need the extra oomph.

Right now, my style is incredibly summery. I’m loving summer prints and lighter, brighter colors. I also love the trend of wearing baggier jeans or flared jeans just to give a looser feel to my look in the Georgia heat.

I hope that my summer of style gives you exactly what you’re looking for or what you never knew you were looking for.
