Everyone harps about college being the time to discover yourself. Well, so far I’ve discovered I really need to spend money on fresh flowers each week, I eat pastries for meals far too often and I have this tendency to scroll through throngs of beautiful things I can’t afford instead of studying. I’m quite drawn to menswear as of late. Saint Laurent blazers, Equipment silk button-downs and Prada brogues dance in my head. I much prefer a looser fit: slouchy trousers, long blazers and loose tops. This oversized Zara button-down happens to be my favorite color of the moment, sky blue. I paired it with leather shorts and, drum roll please, the oft-maligned coupling of socks and sandals. This was my first venture into the world of identity crisis ridden feet, and I have to say I enjoyed the heck out of it. I’m completely obsessed with these Topshop socks; guess I’m running a tad late on that SS13 ruffles trend.
My name is Joanna, and I study Advertising and Public Relations with a minor in Marketing at Loyola University Chicago. I hope to work for a small creative agency one day, taking part in everything from graphic design to research. I have a lot of varied interests, from psychology to typography to flower arranging, but fashion is paramount among them. My recent find is a magazine called ODDA. I rip out spreads and tack them to my wall, most likely to my landlord’s chagrin.
Summer is off to a swell start. It’s the first one I’ll be spending in Chicago, as I usually go home to St. Louis, and boy am I psyched. Now that I have a few more smidgens of free time, I’ll be reading Lovers at the Chameleon Club, Paris 1932, watching Shipping Wars and listening to the new Alabama Shakes album on repeat. And let’s not forget wading through the hoards of tourists to scout out the latest and greatest street styles. Let the stalking (er, reconnaissance missions) recommence.
