STYLE GURU BIO: Jillian Palubicki

Hi everyone! My name is Jillian and I am currently going into my sophomore year at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I am a nursing major with a Spanish minor. Yes you heard it right folks, I am not a journalism or fashion marketing major like most amazing Style Gurus on this site. Although I am enrolled strictly in science, math and psychology courses at school, I do have an artistic side that is largely overpowered by the left brained logistics of my coursework and hospital scrubs. Through this site, I am able to showcase that I am a nurse with a keen eye for fashion, makeup and all things Fashionista!

If I were to describe my personal style, I would say that I like to include chic and urban pieces, but also keep in touch with my earthy roots. I enjoy unique outerwear, such as a vintage leather jacket or an oversized denim coat, with lacy, bohemian blouses. As all of my childhood was spent in a beach town halfway between Boston and Cape Cod, I’ve noticed that my style has been influenced by the sea. I would not say that I am a nautical dresser. I spend a lot of time in the city working, exploring and hanging out, I am drawn to pieces with movement and a sense of casualness, influenced by my many days spent by the shore.

If you wanted to cop an outfit that I would wear, I would say style a pair of high-waisted skinny jeans with an oversized sweater and bralette or a breezy blouse with some notable details or embroidery. If you were to ask my friends about my signature go-to pieces, you would hear them say I am never caught without my turquoise rings and embossed cross-body bag (I never leave without them). Some of my favorite brands are Free People, Topshop and Levi Brand Jeans. I also always find cute, distinctive pieces at Marshalls. Even though an item might not cost much, I find you can always style it so that it looks expensive.

I love the way fashion gives me a sense of self-expression that I’ve lost while advancing through nursing school and as someone who craves adventure, creativity and the pursuit of style. I hope you follow my groovy summer with CollegeFashionista as I finally find my polished, boho self again!
