STYLE GURU BIO: Jill Davis

August 31st, 2016 at 2:10am

My name is Jill Davis, and I am super stoked to begin my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. Unfortunately, I do not live in Athens, Greece but I do live in the cutest town ever, Athens, Georgia. Here I attend the University of Georgia as an advertising major and a fashion merchandising minor. GO DAWGS! In my free time, you will probably catch me scrolling through my Instagram feed or flipping through the latest issue of Vogue (Kenny you rocked the September Issue). If I am not doing either of those things, I am probably watching Sex and the City and living vicariously through Carrie Bradshaw’s life. My favorite time of the day is definitely brunch, because who doesn’t enjoy sleeping in and still getting to enjoy a delicious breakfast? I also adore exploring and traveling to new places.

Along with all of my favorite things, one of my best qualities is that I love to learn from others and am easily inspired. If I had to make a list of all the people that inspire me, it would probably be the size of a Harry Potter book. That being said, I am, without a doubt, inspired by all things fashion. The majority of my fashion inspiration is rooted from the fashion god, Monica Rose. She practically runs the fashion industry for us millennials, so following her is a MUST!

My obsession for fashion began long ago. By the time I reached second grade, I became aware of what style and fashion were (or at least I thought I did). I remember begging my mother to buy me this hot pink and lime green poncho. I can gladly say that my fashion sense has changed since then. Now, I would describe my sense of style as chic with an occasional hint of avant-garde. Most of the pieces in my closet are whites, blacks and neutrals. I am always mixing and matching pieces to create new looks.

I will never stop loving fashion. I am interested in its rich history, its vivid culture and its artistic and personal appeal. I agree with Coco Chanel that, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Fashion is all around us. Many different factors mold each of us into who we are, but our unique and individual style is the one thing that can be expressed without ever saying a word. That is why I love fashion, and this is my style!
