STYLE GURU BIO: Jessica Ibarreta

Hello my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Jessica Ibarreta, and I am a student at the University of North Florida. I major in Marketing & Logistics and aspire to become a marketer/product developer for a leading beauty corporation someday. My obsession and passion for all things beauty, ranging from advocating female empowerment on a daily basis to my undying interest in the makeup industry, definitely integrates into my personal sense of style. Girl power all the way, am I right?

I like to believe I’m gracefully making a segue from embracing the basic tenets of early 2000s girl pop to channeling my inner Beyoncé; but enough with that thought.

There is beauty in simplicity and minimalism. I believe that well executed and tailored key pieces can awaken any outfit and add a very much needed dose of sophistication.

I am obsessed with the sleekness of Helmut Lang and Zara, the playfulness of Topshop and the functional elegance of BCBGeneration in which is truly “Bon Chic, Bon Genre.”

Putting everything in perspective, I have the tendency to build upon a streamlined look. My style is often on the more contemporary side. However as I reside in Florida, I find it necessary and practical to incorporate a splash of “La Vie Bohème” as lightweight fabrics and distressed denims are always go-to’s in 90 degree weather. I am also drawn to vibrant and uniquely textured clothing as well. Anything vaguely indigenous ALWAYS catches my eye.

Just wandering anywhere from Riverside Jax to the beaches, I find great inspiration from local Fashionistas who time and time again manage to incorporate runway trends innovatively and accessibly. Everyday I am truly exploring. My style is never concrete and is ever-changing.

My hopes are to return to NYC in the near future as I miss the cold, the lights and the distinct smells.

As for now, I am beyond excited for my internship this spring as a Style Guru! Be on the lookout every Monday for my posts on the latest street styles on UNF’s campus!
