STYLE GURU BIO: Jacqueline O’Neill

Hello My Fellow Fashionistas/os!

I am a junior Communications major at Villanova University. I was previously a writer for The Odyssey Online this past year and through writing for The Odyssey I realized my writing always seemed to be geared toward fashion. Therefore, I directed myself towards CollegeFashionista and now here I am!

Fashion and style have always been my first priority. Since I was younger, the Mall at Short Hills in Short Hills, New Jersey has been my second home. As a newborn my first outing was to the Bloomingdale’s store. Over the past 19 years it has proven to be “the greatest store in the world.” By stalking the magazines and the next season’s lookbooks for each designer I anxiously await each season. I cannot say I have a favorite season, as fur can be just as fabulous as a silk shift dress on the beach. As I am one of three girls, the closets in my house are filled with all different styles.

From athletic, to edgy, to preppy, and sophisticated, I have dabbled in almost any style out there! After transitioning to Villanova in the fall of 2013 I have shifted into the more preppy side of myself. Sporting the Sperry’s with any casual outfit, or adding them to a button- down and colored jeans, I find myself never leaving the dorm without my pearl earrings. Nonetheless, I am blessed with the ability and confidence to experiment with all different kinds of pieces and styles.

My method is simply pulling any and all pieces I enjoy from a catalog and mixing and matching. I never stick with the full head-to-toe outfit the model wears in the catalog or on the runway, as it may not work for me. The most important thing I have learned over the years with fashion is to make the pieces work for you.

As a girl only 40 minutes from New York City, the fashion capital of the world, spontaneous trips to the Big Apple are frequent. Whether it is to meet friends who live on the Upper West Side for dinner, or see a play with family, it happens often and I love it. In need of a super chic outfit to wear out to a dinner with friends, quick yet serious choices needed to be made.

White textured 7 For All Mankind jeans, a black silk camisole found at J.Crew and dark gray Jeffery Campbell shoes were the go-to. And to be on the safe side of an air-conditioned restaurant, I never leave home without a jacket or sweater. Paired with classic jewelry to give sparkle to the traditional colors, it was easy and I was on time for the train. And of course, my most beloved accessory: Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Whatever I put on I always aim to look and feel my best, and as my style icon Rachel Zoe said: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” And with that I say, stay tuned for more pieces and looks still to come!
