STYLE GURU BIO: Gabrielle Poston

Hi there and welcome to my little world of fashion here on CollegeFashionista. My name is Gabrielle Poston and I am a senior communications major with a minor in art studio at Coastal Carolina University.

I was born in a small town outside of Charlotte, N.C. called Shelby, N.C. but moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. when I was three and I have lived here ever since. Living and going to school in the same place you grew up tends to make your walls feel a bit smaller and for me, that’s where my fashion allowed me to expand those walls.

As I entered high school and learned more about myself and my passions, I found that fashion is one of the most interesting and intriguing ways to express yourself and it was something that I found myself in. Being able to dress up or dress down and still feel confident in your skin is something that fashion has allowed me, and many others to do. I am currently a signed model with DirectionsUSA out of North Carolina and it has been a dream of mine that I have been living for almost over two years now. Therefore, being around fashion, stylists, and other models I am constantly being exposed to new trends and fashion in other industries. Being a model has made me appreciate all the work that goes into styling and how having an eye for certain pieces and color schemes is certainly a gift.

With that being said, I tend to travel a lot for work and other things. Therefore, my wardrobe has come down to a science of what I call comfy chic. I like to stick to a pretty monochromatic color scheme while mixing in nudes and mauves to add some color, all while making sure I am comfortable and that my outfit can take me from class to coffee, to shoots, and work.

For example, I’ve paired black skinnies with a lace-up cold shoulder top from a local boutique to add a little pop of color, and because I can never tell the weather’s plans I layered it with a belted asymmetrical-zip coat, and then finally to take it to the next level I added some black suede booties! The best thing about this ‘comfy chic’ look is it can take you from brunch to running errands, all the way to dinner and movie!

I am so excited to see what this CollegeFashionista gang has in store for this semester! Here’s to an amazing semester!
