STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Lenhart

Hi everyone, my name is Emily. This is my first time being a style guru for college fashionista and I could not be more excited! I am a first year student with junior credits at the University of Tampa. I am majoring in marketing with a focus in public relations, hoping to someday have a career in fashion marketing and merchandising. I’m from Tampa, Florida, but I am planning on moving elsewhere once I finish college. Although this may be a surprise to most, since Florida has a reputation for nice weather, I’m sick of the hot, muggy weather here and just really need a change.

Since the age of 10, after visiting New York City for the first time, I knew fashion was something I could easily spend the rest of my life doing. I grew obsessed with designers such as Betsey Johnson and decided that when I grew up, I was going to be a fashion designer just like them. Now that I’m older and my tastes have matured a bit, I realize the design side of the fashion world isn’t the best fit for me. I now hope to someday work as a buyer or in the merchandising side of the fashion industry.

My sense of style is pretty minimalistic. Normally, I gravitate towards a neutral color palette as well as darker colors to style my outfits around, although recently I have been trying to add more pops of color into the mix. For fashion inspiration I normally look to model-off-duty or streetwear style. I definitely still look to the runways for fashion inspiration, however sometimes I struggle to find a way to interpret it into a way that makes it wearable for my day-to-day life.

For this outfit, I decided to go with one of my favorite trends that came out of 2016, the t-shirt under a slip dress. Something about this pairing has slowly become one of my favorites. It takes what is supposed to be a sexy slip dress and makes it a casual everyday outfit. I paired my black slip dress with a white t-shirt with a rose embroidery detail on the sleeve. Underneath I wore some sheer tights that I had accidentally ripped that day. In the end, though, I think this unintentional rip added to the overall look of the outfit. To finish off the look, I wore my black patent leather heeled booties, a simple black choker, and some gold, rounded Ray-bans.
