STYLE GURU BIO: Emily Holycross

Hey everyone! I am thrilled to be returning to CollegeFashionista for my fourth semester! CF has become an important backbone in my life that provides me with endless experience in fashion, writing, and photography. It’s safe to say CollegeFashionista is what got me interested in photography; I didn’t use a camera until I got accepted for this internship and I couldn’t be more grateful!

I am junior at Central Michigan University studying journalism. Writing has always been a favorite hobby of mine, and CollegeFashionista helped encouraged me to pursue it in school. My dream of working in the fashion industry began when I was young and would read my mom’s magazines or she would buy me Seventeen and Teen Vogue. Now, I would absolutely love to work for a fashion publication one day!

The most difficult article for me to write is always my Style Guru bio because I never know how to describe my personal style. My style is constantly changing day-to-day, outfit-to-outfit, but something I will always love to wear is black. You seriously can’t go wrong when you’re wearing black—it’s a fashion staple.

“Your appearance is the first thing you say to somebody.” So, make it a great introduction! Fashion is a great conversation starter and brings so many different people together. What we wear daily is a chance to express ourselves to all those around and enables us to make connections we might not make without fashion.

Now that winter is in full swing here in Michigan (a.k.a. freezing), it has become even more difficult to choose an outfit for classes. Are you thinking about walking to class through all the ice and snow without boots? Forget about it! I chose this outfit solely around my favorite olive green Timberlands.

Mom jeans are back and all the rage, and I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon. I got this black pair from my great Aunt Stephanie who is always giving me her #RAD clothes! I paired black fishnets with the jeans for that extra detail and dimension.

My latest obsession is olive green, so I matched my Timberlands with my friend’s super cute turtleneck cropped shirt and a yellow tank underneath to match the details on the boots; I love the combination. Turtlenecks are comfy and cute and are absolutely perfect for these brutally cold winter months.

My mom works in the beauty industry, so I grew up loving to do my makeup and hair! My favorite thing to do with my hair lately are these loose wand curls parted down the middle, I find it complements any look nicely and makes it look more put together. My go-to makeup look is a lot like shown here: brown tones and no eyeliner.

I am looking forward to reading your articles and connecting with you all on social media! Cheers to a fresh semester.
