STYLE GURU BIO: Danielle Healy

Hello, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Danielle Healy and I am a Sophomore Fashion Merchandising student at Kent State University. I am thrilled to be on the CollegeFashionista team and can’t wait to share with you all the awesome styles that walk Kent’s campus everyday.

I am from Ridgway, Pennsylvania which is also known as the Middle of Nowhere. A tiny town which lies a staggering two and a half hours to the nearest city and an hour and a half to the closest respectable mall.

It always seemed like a nuisance growing up, being so far away from the places that the industry seems to place their focus. Honestly though, I’m grateful now. It made me creative with my purchases, my styling, and extremely price savvy. Perhaps most of all though it gave me an awareness of how fashion trickles down from the runway all the way to what we find on the discount racks months later. However, the runway feels really far away in my backwoods town. As a result, I have grown up wanting to make those trends accessible to anyone and everyone because I realized early how hard they were to utilize from where I lived. I find the process of getting dressed everyday to be the most practical and prevalent form of self expression out there. Fashion is the art we live in and I find few things as fascinating as that.

That is one reason I am so excited to be a Style Guru! CollegeFashionista is an amazing way to feature stylish and daring students from all over the country and give others great inspiration for their own looks, and I am honored to be contributing to it.

I don’t really know how exactly to describe my style. I like looking like different people everyday depending on my mood. One day I want nothing more than to sport a classic crewneck sweater and collared button-up shirt. But the next you may find me in my ripped boyfriend jeans and one of my dozen pairs of Converse. I do like statement pieces though. Whether it’s a long billowy blouse, printed shorts, or my knee-high gladiator sandals, I like quirky, eye catching pieces. Simple jewelry like a chunky watch and a simple, silver ring keep the clothing grounded and appropriate for everyday wear. Unique pieces make something as mundane as what I wear to class, fun!

I look forward to this semester and the opportunity to share with you all what the awesome students of Kent are doing with their everyday looks. I hope you like what you see and will come back for more articles from myself and the other amazing Style Gurus.
