STYLE GURU BIO: Courtney Marcus

Hello Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Courtney Marcus and I am a sophomore majoring in fashion and textile management at North Carolina State University. NC State is home to one of the largest textile schools in the world, and I cannot wait to show all of you the #RAD outfits and original pieces that our students rock daily. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista, and I am so excited for the opportunities it will bring!

I was born in South Florida and lived there for 10 years before moving to North Carolina. I have called North Carolina my home ever since. Although I do love the small town I am from, I plan to relocate to a big city after I graduate. I would love to live somewhere in New York or California and work as an apparel buyer. However, no matter where I end up, having a career in something I love is what is most important.

I love fashion because it is a way for people to express themselves and show off their originality and creativity. It is fascinating to me how fashion can connect people from all over the world, and is a language that everyone can speak. I am especially captivated by fashion shows; they’re so magical and surreal. I am fortunate to go to a school where fashion shows happen a few times a year and are something I am able to participate in, but I would love to volunteer for New York Fashion Week.  I’ve always dreamed of being able to be a part of something so breathtaking.

My personal style is hard to pinpoint because it is constantly changing, but one element always stays constant: simplicity. Although I do occasionally wear a bold color or pattern, I typically reach for neutral colors and simple silhouettes when picking out my outfit. I believe pieces are more versatile when they are minimalist, and can be easily dressed up or down with accessories. For this look, I am wearing an off-the-shoulder top from Brandy Melville, a button-down skirt from Forever 21, and accessorized with a Kendra Scott pendant necklace and Steve Madden booties.
