STYLE GURU BIO: Courtney Blackwell

September 1st, 2015 at 2:00am

Hello, gorgeous! Isn’t that just a lovely way to start the day? My name is Courtney Blackwell and I am currently a freshman at one of the greatest colleges in the southeast, The University of Georgia (Goooo Dawgs, Sic ‘Em)! As of right now, I am currently blessing the business program with my presence (just kidding) as a Marketing major with a Fashion Merchandising minor, but who knows what the next three years will hold! I’m hoping that the valuable education I am receiving will aid me in reaching my dream career as a fashion writer! I know what your thinking, a writer? Major in Journalism. But, there is a method to my madness. I know that the fashion industry is extremely competitive to get into with all these Fashionistas/os, like yourselves, pining for all the same jobs. So, my goal is to get a degree that will allow me to try out different aspects in the business realm of fashion. This semester I was blessed with the opportunity to write for CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru. Nothing could ever make me more excited about this semester with my new family (not even meeting the man, the myth, the legend: Kanye West).

Okay, so let me give you the run-down that is me and my life. I don’t like to say I have one specific style because I don’t like to put myself in a box. I love trying out new looks, that is the point of fashion right? However, I will say I tend to gravitate more towards the business causal look on a day-to-day basis.

My two style icons are Solange Knowles and Kanye West. I love how you can see their personalities through what they wear. They’re able to do this because they treat fashion as what it is, an art form, and I think today we kind of lose sight of that a bit. I also love how they take risks and aren’t afraid to have a fashion faux.

I never buy anything at it’s original price, my SnapChat is bae (courtney_fk), Dylan O’brien will be my husband and I live for award shows and #beyhive5ever.

What is my fashion career, you ask? Well if you count slaying every kindergartner in my class as career, then I started at the tender age of five. But in all honesty, my fashion career would be nothing if it wasn’t for the original slayage of my mother. She always taught me that no matter where you are, or where your going, you need to look presentable. You never know who you might run into a colleague, supervisor, teacher, your future husband (wink, wink) it doesn’t matter, but everyone deserves to see the best and most confident you.
